RABBI INNI MAGHLUBUN FAN-TASS-SSIR FULL DUA WITH TRANSLATION

In the beginning of Surah Al Qamar Allah reminds the reader of the numerous warnings he has provided and how despite all the signs people will still deny the truth.

“And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement.”
54:3

Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala goes onto to say, the Quran is filled with wisdom but these warnings won’t help those who choose not to believe. They are the hopeless and Allah (SWT) tells Prophet Muhammad to leave them be. The Day the ‘Caller calls’ will be the day their eyes will be humbled. 

Here we can learn a very deep lesson into human nature, every effort should be made to convey our message. But after delivering a sincere and honest presentation and people don’t listen then we must part ways. The presentation wasn’t for them but for the one’s who stayed and listened.

It is unfortunate but people go on their own journeys and need to experience a setback or failure to realize the truth. This is the wisdom behind the saying, life experience is the best teacher. It can be a hard teacher at times…

Allah mentions that all efforts will be made, but it’s the unfortunate case that some will only realize once they raise from their graves.

“Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading,”54:7

The Quran then continues with the story of Prophet Nuh (pbuh) and how the people hadn’t listened to him. He tried was sincere and honest in his presentation but the people not only ignored him they taunted him, called him insane, possessed, and a madman. 

Nuh (AS) became intimidated and fearful by being driven out of the community he cried to Allah for help and recited this rabbi inni maghlubun dua. It is given in Surah Qamar ayah 10.

RABBI INNI MAGHLOOBUN FANTASIR IN ARABIC

In arabic text this dua is written,

رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌۭ فَٱنتَصِرْ

Here’s the three most used transliterations to help with pronunciation of this dua:

1. rabbi inni maghlubun fan-tass-ssir
2. rabbahu annee maghloobun fantasir
3. rabbi inni maghloobun fantasir

RABBI INNI MAGHLUBUN FAN-TASS-SSIR MEANING

Here’s the different translations of the dua from various quran commentators.

DR. GHALI So, he invoked his Lord, (saying), “I am overcome, so vindicate me!”

ABDUL HALEEM and so he called upon his Lord, ‘I am defeated: help me!’

YUSUF ALI Then he called on his Lord: “I am one overcome: do Thou then help (me)!”

SAHIH INTERNATIONAL So he invoked his Lord, “Indeed, I am overpowered, so help.”

DR. MUSTAFA KHATTAB So he cried out to his Lord, “I am helpless, so help me!”

MUHSIN KHAN Then he invoked his Lord (saying): “I have been overcome, so help (me)!”

PICKTHALL The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed.

This is a very simple dua and can provide comfort if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or just need a little motivation or boost in spirit.

If I could provide some personal advice, just remember, like all the problems of the past you’ve faced, here you are standing tall. Now, there’s no denying real pain and struggle will inevitably fall on all of us, but remember the saying, “this too will pass”. It can often sound trite or overused but time does heal all wounds. So, I recommend remembering Allah by reciting this dua, take things one day at a time, it will get better.

We conclude with one of my favorite one-liners from the Quran:

“Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.”
Surah Baqarah Ayat 286

ALLAHUMMA ANTAS SALAM FULL DUA WITH MEANING AND IN ARABIC TEXT

It is sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) to recite the full allahumma antas salam dua after taslim, that is after saying As-salamu alaykum warahmatullah at end of prayer.

This does not mean that you must say this dua, it is not obligatory. The purpose of this dua is better understood once you understand the meaning of this dua. It’s said for the following reasons:

• Act of Worship glorifying Allah.
• Shows remembrance of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala.
• Re-affirms one’s faith.

FULL DUA IN ARABIC:

In Arabic text the full allahumma antas salam dua would be,

‏ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ السَّلاَمُ وَمِنْكَ السَّلاَمُ تَبَارَكْتَ يَا ذَا الْجَلاَلِ وَالإِكْرَامِ

Transliteration: Allahumma Antas-Salam wa minkas-salam. Tabarakta ya Dhal-jalali wal- ikram.

ALLAHUMMA ANTAS SALAM DUA – ENGLISH TRANSLATION:

“O Allah, You are As-Salam, From You is all peace, blessed are You O Possessor of majesty and honour”

This dua is referenced in different hadiths of Ibn Majah, At-Tirmidhi, and An-Nasa’i. It is graded as authentic or Sahih (Darussalam).

ADDING ON TO THE ALLAHUMMA ANTAS SALAM DUA?

There are variations that exists for this dua. For example:

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ السَّلَامُ وَمِنْكَ السَّلَامُ وَإِلَيْكَ يَرْجِعُ السَّلَامُ فَحَيِّنَا رَبَّنَا بِالسَّلَامِ وَأَدْخِلْنَا دَارَكَ دَارَ السَّلَامِ تَبَارَكت رَبنَا وَتَعَالَيْت يَا ذَا الْجلَال وَالْإِكْرَام

Allahumma Antas Salam wa minkas Salam wa ilayka yarji’us salam fahayyina Rabbana bis salam wa adkhilna daraka daras salam tabarakta Rabbana wa ta’alayta Ya Dhal Jalali wal Ikram

You may not remember where you learned it from but it’s in your head. Now, there’s nothing sinful in remembering or saying a different variation but there is no basis for these extra words.

If you’d like to keep to the Sunnah of the Prophet, may peace be upon him, recite what was shown above.

DUA ALLAHUMMA BISMIKA AMUTU WA AHYA BENEFITS AND MEANING

Every dua made helps carve out our relationship with Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala.

It is an action which is a demonstration of the believer’s character.

When things go our way it’s important to show humility and to be thankful to the creator which has made it possible. In unfavorable circumstances, worship shows loyalty and true belief. In those moments we ask Allah for help and remain patient.

Allah knows what lies in our hearts and the true intention of the believer.

In today’s dua we explore the hadith and find the Sunnah of Prophet (ﷺ) on what he would recite before going to bed. It is a short dua which is easy to memorize in Arabic and the benefit of learning is you will feel your heart fill with love for Allah (swt).

The more duas you can learn, the more tools you have at your disposal to show remembrance of Allah (swt) in different occasions. And we know sincere remembrance of Allah is one of the greatest acts of worship.

ALLAHUMMA BISMIKA DUA IN ARABIC

The dua written in Arabic text is as follows,

اللهم باسمك أموت وأحيا‏

Transliteration: Allahumma bismika amutu wa ahya

MEANING OF ALLAHUMMA BISMIKA AMUTU WA AHYA

The translation of the dua is “O Allah, with Your Name will I die and live (wake up)”. ^[1]

There is a second version of this dua which is recorded in Hadith of Sahih Al-Bukhari, it goes:

بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا

Transliteration: Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya ^[2]
Translation: With Your name, O Allah, I die and I live

Both variations are recorded in hadith and are authentic.

FULL HADITH DUA BEFORE SLEEP:

This dua can be recited in any occasion, the Sunnah of the Prophet (ﷺ) was to recite this dua for lying down and going to sleep. Here is the full hadith:

Hudhaifah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) lay down for sleep at night, he would place his (right) hand under his (right) cheek and supplicate: “Allahumma bismika amutu wa ahya [O Allah, with Your Name will I die and live (wake up)].”

DUA WHEN WAKING UP:

The hadith continues with dua Prophet (ﷺ) would say when waking up, “And when he woke up, he would supplicate: “Alhamdulillahil ladhi ahyana ba’da ma amatana, wa ilaihin-nushur (All praise is due to Allah, Who has brought us back to life after He has caused us to die, and to Him is the return).” ^[3]

• Cover your head and ears as these are one of the most vulnerable body parts through which your body can catch cold.
• Eat boiled eggs regularly and also consume green tea or other forms of tea on a consistent basis.
• Try to sit under sunlight as much as you can and consume fresh vegetables and fruits regularly.
• Do Not compromise on your rest. Sleep at least 7-8 hours daily and also, exercise consistently so that you can turn into the best version of yourself.
• Avoid cold and sour consumables as much as you can.
• Wear thick socks and try not to walk barefooted even inside the premises of the home.
• Follow the following Wazifa and the entire procedure for even better results.
